Vacuum Tool Help

We currently sell 3 types of vacuum heads & wands. These are not interchangeable. When ordering, make sure you get the same type heads as wand. If you already have a wand or head and do not know what type it is, use the chart below. All wands are for 1½" hoses.

It may be difficult to tell the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 tools. One way is to measure the outside diameter of the tool head. If you do not have a caliper, wrap a piece of paper around the tool, and place a mark where it overlaps itself. This is the circumference. Flatten out the paper and measure to the mark. Type 1 will measure 4 1516"; Type 2 will measure 4 34".

Type 1 Type 2 Type 3

Type 1

Type 1 vacuum cleaning attachments connect to the wand (handle) by inserting the attachment into the wand coupling. The outer cap (wand coupling nut) is then turned in a clockwise direction which compresses a bronze compression ring around a groove in the neck of the attachment. The ring will hold the attachment in place and still allow it to swivel. Both the wands and attachments are considered to be 1-1/2".
Important note: The inside diameter of the wand coupling, although used on a 1-1/2" diameter tube, is actually 1-9/16". The neck of the attachment is also 1-9/16" to match the wand coupling. This diameter was introduced many years ago and is not used by as many manufacturers as the 1-1/2" inside diameter wand coupling. Wands with a type 1 connection will accept type 2 attachments but there will be a gap between the attachment and the wall of the wand coupling, and sometimes the ring cannot be tightened enough to hold it.

Type 2

Type 2 vacuum cleaning attachments connect to the wand (handle) the same as Type 1. The only difference between Type 1 and Type 2 attachments and wands is that the outside diameter necks on the tools and the inside diameter on the wand coupling is 1-1/2". Both the wands and attachments referred to are considered 1-1/2" in size.
Important note: Type 2 wands (handles) will not accept Type 1 attachments. Type 2 tools, however, will fit inside a Type 1 wand coupling, but there will be a gap between the attachment and wand coupling, resulting in a loss of vacuum performance.

Compatible with the following manufacturers:

Type 3

The method of connecting Type 3 floor tools to the wand (handle) is to pull the knob on the wand coupling outward, which has spring tension, insert the vacuum attachment and release the knob. The inner shaft of the knob will then lock in a groove in the attachment neck which will hold the attachment in place and allow it to swivel. Both wands and tools are considered to be 1-1/2" size.
