Tech TipsTECH TIPS SLOTTED DRUM MACHINES DID YOU KNOW THAT A MAJOR PROBLEM LEADING TO CHATTER IS LEAVING THE PAPER TIGHT OVERNIGHT. THIS COMPRESSES THE RUBBER AROUND THE SLOT. The rubber never goes back and eventually makes the slot wider causing a bigger bump when the drum turns. This can also happen on belt sanders when the paper is left tensioned on the drum DRESSING A
SLOTTED DRUM: Spray glue sandpaper to a very flat surface. The surface has to
be big enough and flat enough to hold the sander wheels and the 80 GRIT paper.
Next Put 4- 80 grit shims in the drum slot and remove the fan belt so you can
hear the drum contact the paper. Decrease the tension as much as possible.
Start the machine and touch the drum to the paper very slightly for a few
seconds and see if the drum is hitting evenly across the drum. If it is hitting
on one side use the adjustments on the machine to level the machine so it cuts -
grinds the drum flat. Now it will take at least 15 minutes to slowly grind the
drum - dress the drum. GO SLOW! This will remove some surface imperfections and
remove dimples in the surface. This will help to eliminate chatter. Belt
drums should not be dressed, most are usually destroyed when dressed on the
machine. Belt Sanders Most important! They must cut FLAT! NO CUT SIDE. If they
cut heavily on one side this will push the paper to the other side and you will compensate
by adjusting the tracking to keep the paper in the center. This will wear the
drum on the cut side and the top roller will wear quick on the other side. The
cone rollers will wear out and sand belts will rip up faster. Having wave
problems? We recommend that you check and make sure that you chassis is not
sticky. To accomplish this use a scale that is flat and inline with the
floor. Then drop the drum and if you push down harder or pull up on the
feather handle it should always return to the same weight when the handle is
released.
Please note that we can rebush and rebuild FloorCrafter top rollers starting at
$40. EDGERS Poor dust collection can be a clogged or a bag that is too fine of material. Try the OEM bag. Also if the edger is adjusted too high in the back it will not pick up. A slight tip to the right side 1 O'clock sanding position may help. See below for S7R. If the armature is worn heavily or uneven save the armature by having US or a good shop turn and under cut it. PS We charge $225.00 to do a tune up (includes labor, bearings, brushes, seals, grease) an extra $75 to turn and under cut the armature if needed. Is your edger not picking up dust well? You may need to
adjust the height of casters. A memory aid to help with this is a Super 7R
edger is worth 75 cents. Stack up three quarter and this is how high the
back of the edger casting should be off the floor (other edgers are set to
different heights). Level the edger so this is the same height on both
sides of casting. Then as you stand behind adjust the casters so the pad
makes contact with the floor at the 1 o'clock position to through the dust
efficiently into the casting for best dust pickup. Still having trouble
with dust pickup buy one of our low priced dust skirts part # CE75.
When installing this dust skirt make sure the casting is free from alls dust by
cleaning with a solvent. New Style Clarke B-2 Brush Block NEW Information Having problems with the new style b-2 plastic brush blocks jamming, sticking, burning, and melting. To reduce this problem as much as possible always make sure the edger is blown out. Dust is the main problem that binds up the brush and causes all the problems. Please note that we sell kits with everything you need to convert back to the old style brush system. Avoid melted brush holders and take advantage of cheaper brush sets. Part # AE28RK
The springs clip into the brush holder. DO NOT ROLL UP THE SPRING WITH A FINGER - THE BRUSH SPRING WILL BE RUINED! THE BEVEL CUT INTO THE BRUSH FACES THE SPRING PLATE (GOLD PLATE SPRING MOUNTS TO!)
